In the hope of resurrection, the Ibrahim family announces the passing of their beloved John Isaac Ibrahim
John Isaac Ibrahim, 92, of
South Amboy, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his side on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
John Isaac Ibrahim was born in Luxor, Upper Egypt. He was one of ten children and became the last surviving sibling. He loved his family immensely, and throughout his life, he devoted himself to God alongside his parents, siblings, and their memory.
In his youth, John met and played table tennis with Nazir Gayed Roufail, who later became known as His Holiness Pope Shenouda III. As a young man, John earned his college degree in political science and economics from Cairo University, where he was taught by Boutros Ghali, the former secretary-general of the United Nations. After college, John was conscripted to the Egyptian military as a gunner. He then worked at the National Bank of Egypt in Cairo and represented them in court, winning 25 out of 25 cases. During his tenure there, he met the love of his life Laurice, and they married and had four children.
In 1970, John moved to the United States, and his wife and children followed in 1971. John first went to Minnesota, then moved to New Jersey for better job opportunities in the New York/New Jersey area. He worked a variety of jobs, including as a hospital orderly and at a Korean bank in letters of credit with imports and exports. John also served as a uniformed civilian contractor with the military rank of lieutenant colonel for the Department of Defense/U.S. Army immediately after 9/11.
John had struggled to adapt to life in the States. Leaving behind an accomplished life in Egypt, in addition to navigating vast cultural differences in America, was socially challenging and isolating. Despite these difficulties, John proudly loved, led, and served his family.
As the leader and elder of the family, John highly valued respect and was very sensitive to it. He had a deep sense of honor and duty and often considered his position as head of a God-fearing household. He listened to Bible teachers more than anyone and shared their messages with whomever he believed needed it most.
John's life was defined by his love for God. He manifested this love by being an involved father who appreciated his children's interests, such as sports like tennis, and encouraged their independence. He was a devoted husband who picked up his wife from night classes at Pace University in New York City while she finished her college degree. For three and half years, he took Laurice to Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City for chemotherapy and never left her side until she took her final breath. His commitment to serving his family spanned nearly a century and multiple continents, and it was how John showed that he loved God through them above all else.
On February 4th, John reunited with his wife, daughters, parents, brothers, and sisters in Paradise. A religious service celebrating his life will be at St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church in Holmdel on Monday, February 9th at 1:00 PM. Afterwards, we will proceed to St. Mary Cemetery in South Amboy for his burial at 2:30 PM. Thank you for all of your prayers and support for the family.
