John T. Ivaliotis ObituaryJohn Thomas Ivaliotis, 87, of Howell, NJ, passed away peacefully during the evening hours on Thursday, September 4, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born April 24, 1938 in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, John was the son of the late James Ivaliotis and Christine Ivaliotis. John spent his childhood in New York City where he became an avid collector of comic books, records and sports memorabilia from a young age. In 1951, the Ivaliotis Family welcomed the birth of John's younger brother James, who John cared for as both a sibling and a mentor from his teen years through early adulthood.
In true Greek tradition, John met his wife Evelyn Ivaliotis through their parents. They soon came to recognize each other as true soulmates, marrying on July 3, 1966, and maintaining their enduring, lifelong bond for 59 years. They later welcomed their daughter Christine Ivaliotis on March 19, 1969, and their son Jason Paul Ivaliotis on April 26, 1981. John and Evelyn would endure many tumultuous times during their lives together, including the loss of their infant son Terance. But their loving bond, resilient strength, and commitment to each other and their family was steadfast.
After starting their family in New York City, John and Evelyn moved to Ocean Township, NJ where they raised their two children and lived for 28 years. John was a stockbroker by trade until his retirement in the 1990's. He began his career in 1959 as a clerk on the floor of the New York Stock exchange, carrying only a high school diploma and an ambitious spirit. After several years of professional training, John earned his brokerage license and led a successful career managing trading operations at several brokerage firms in New York and New Jersey. John also served in the Army National Guard deployed out of Joint Base McGuire-Dix in Lakehurst, New Jersey.
In his spare time, John could be found reading financial reports, watching stock market commentators and prognosticating about market trends and strategic buying opportunities. He also enjoyed watching sporting events and listening to music from his collection of nearly 15,000 records whose eclectic selections spanned several decades and musical genres. He was a frequent concert goer with his wife, Evelyn and would enjoy live performances of his favorite bands at the PNC Bank Arts Center.
John is survived by his children, Christine and Jason, daughter-in-law Sarah, and his three grandchildren, Helen, Charles and Lillian. He is also survived by his many extended family members, including cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. John is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, his brother, James, and his infant son, Terance Ivaliotis.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue, Ocean, NJ with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM. Interment will follow at St. George Greek Orthodox Cemetery, 2380 West Bangs Avenue, Neptune, NJ. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
