John "Jack" H. Gross

John "Jack" H. Gross, 97, of Silvis, passed away November 16, 2025, at his home.

Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday November 28, 2025, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. The service will be live streamed from the Calvary Lutheran Church Facebook page. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or charity of your choice. Private burial will be at a later date at Prospect Hill Cemetery in York, Pennsylvania. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline is assisting the family.

Jack was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the son of M.P. and Mildred (Henry) Gross. He married Marilyn J. Wagner on March 6, 1954, in Gilman, Illinois. He was a veteran, having served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps from 1953-1955. He was a graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering. He worked on the Rock Island Arsenal at the Army Munitions Command, retiring in January of 1989. Jack was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a former council member. He liked to travel, attend the Bix Jazz Concerts, dance, sail, bowl and play golf. Jack also enjoyed the many family reunions.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; sons, Gary (Pam) Gross, Moline, Jeffrey (Wendy) Gross, Naperville, Ill., Bradley (Cathy) Gross, Chicago Ridge, Ill.; 9 grandchildren (and spouses); and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Rob Kiefel; sibling, Ed; aunts, uncles and cousins.
