John Gary Marceau
MISSOULA - John Gary Marceau, 78, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at St. Patrick Hospital, of natural causes.
He was born on May 13, 1945, in Missoula, to Jack and Julia Marceau. He spent his childhood in Missoula where he attended St. Francis Xavier Grade School and finished his secondary education at Loyola Sacred Heart High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Montana with a degree in liberal arts.
He received a commission into the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant through the ROTC program at the University of Montana. He trained as an artillery officer at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma in preparation to deploy to Vietnam. He proudly served in Vietnam in 1968-69 as a forward observer. His proficiency performing his duties is something that he was proud of and there is no doubt that, if needed, he could have called in a successful "Fire for Effect" even on his last day.
On June 30, 1973 he married Dotty Anno at St. Francis Xavier Church in Missoula MT. They lived in Missoula until 1996 when they made the big six mile move to Lolo, MT. He worked as a meat cutter, a custodian at MCPS, and finally as a bus driver for Beach Transportation.
He loved spending time with his family, telling stories and jokes, working on cars, taking care of his yard, and going for drives. He had a knack for telling stories and you couldn't hear one of his stories without laughing.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Julia (Caplis) Marceau; brother Ken and his wife Mary Marceau; brother Dick Marceau; brother in law John Maricelli; his father and mother in law Walt and Louse (Keough) Anno; and his brother in law and wife Ted and Mable Lou Anno.
Survivors include his wife Dotty Marceau, Lolo, MT: two daughters and their families Amy (Kelly) Olofson, Snohomish, WA and Anne (Myles) Maloney, Missoula, MT: one son and his family Mike (Shannon) Marceau, Bonney Lake, WA; two sisters Colleen Maricelli, Missoula MT, and Sr. Ida Mae Marceau, Spokane, WA; In-Laws Cindy Marceau, Great Falls, MT, Mary and Paul Murk, Missoula, MT, and Eva and Archie Kingsbury, Martin, SD; along with six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that meant a great deal to him.
A funeral service is planned with Father Paul Cochran at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Missoula, MT at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 26, 2023, with burial to follow at 1:00 PM at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Missoula, MT; reception to follow at 2:00 PM at Garden City Funeral Home.
