John (Jack) Powles Jr., 89, of Scotia, went home with the Lord Tuesday June 26, 2012 at the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia. Born in Rotterdam, NY, he was the son of the late John and Sadie Powles Sr. He was a graduate of Draper High School. John served in the Army Air Corp in World War 2. He was employed as an Industrial Engineer for 42 years for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Niskayuna. John will be remembered as a committed follower of Jesus Christ. He is predeceased by his wife Velma Chace Powles whom he married September 12, 1942. John is survived by seven children- Judith A. Potter of Rotterdam, John W. Powles III (Donna) of Clinton, NY, Janice L. Galkiewcz (Michael) of Arkansas, Deborah R. Leonard (Timothy) of Rotterdam, Rev. David M. Powles (Pamela) of Philadelphia, Wendy S. Powles of Rotterdam and Sherri Barber ( Richard) of Cape May, NJ, one sister Corinne Palmer of Texas and one sister in law Doris Sengenberger of Rotterdam, also survived by over 60 Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Friday 2PM at the Trinity Baptist Church 2635 Balltown Road Niskayuna. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours will be Friday 1-2PM at the Church. Internment with Military Honors will be in Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam. Contributions can be made in John's memory to the Trinity Baptist Church 2635 Balltown Road Niskayuna, NY 12309.The family would like to say "Thank You" to the staff at Baptist N2 for their loving care of our Dad. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue Schenectady.
