John Edward Jacobs, 81, of Dixon, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon.
John was born on October 30, 1942, at CGH Hospital in Sterling, the son of John and Marie (Fitch) Jacobs. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1961. John served in the U.S. Army 68th Signal Corps from 1961-1964. He married Louise Gugerty on July 3, 1965, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dixon where he was a member. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2016. John was a custom home builder for over 50 years in the Sauk Valley Area. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. John loved sharing his trade with others, winning at casinos, and was an avid sports fan, who loved watching his kids and grandkids.
John is survived by his children, Laurie Dewey of Dixon, John (Jane) Jacobs of Dixon, Barb (Ben) Rude of Sterling, and Joe (Frannie) Jacobs of Dixon; grandchildren Melissa (Eric) Rasmussen, Kathryn (Tommy) Wilkinson, Eric Dewey, Braden and Grant Jacobs, Ryan, Jacob, Annie, and Ellie Rude, and Maddy Jacobs; great-grandchildren; Luke, Emma, Millie, and Owen Rasmussen, Blake and Rhett Wilkinson, two sisters; Nora (Ron) Bechtold of Middleton, WI and Sue (Mike) Edmunds of Jackson, MO.
John was also preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Jacobs.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, followed by rosary service at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, March 4, 2024, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Dixon, with Father Timothy Draper officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to St. Anne's Catholic Church, Dixon High School Athletics, and Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon.
