John David Johnston, 68, of Shreveport, LA, passed away on March 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 9, 1956, in Shreveport, LA, John David was the son of Jacqueline (Jackie) Wright Johnston and the late Johnny Pleas (J.P.) Johnston.

John David was a loving son, father, brother, companion, and friend. He is survived by his son, Jonathan Johnston; his wife, Kara, and their son, Jack David; his daughter, Emily Johnston Ybarra, and her husband, Jonathan Ybarra; his mother, Jackie Johnston, and her companion, Paul George; his brother, Mark Johnston, and his wife, Pam, along with their children: Adam (and his wife Katie), Garrett (and his wife Jordan), Marshall (and his wife Rachel), and Morgan (and his wife Michael); his sister, Julia Johnston Crawford, and her children, Robert Johnston Crawford (and his wife Amber) and Cynthia Crawford; and his long-time companion, Renee Thielmier—also, a surviving aunt, Patsy Wright Winslett and her son, Arthur Winslett.

He was predeceased in death by his father, J.P. Johnston; his paternal grandparents, Belfer Johnston and Thelma Seward Johnston; his maternal grandparents, Clint Kelly Wright and Phyllis Murphy Wright; his aunts, Mary Jewel Johnston McDonald and Martha Johnston Grisham; his great-uncles, Hudson Johnston and his son, Billy Tom Johnston, Thomas Johnston, and Arthur L. Seward; his aunts, Betty Wright Hanson and Jean Wright Chaney; and her grandson, Will Cummings.

Throughout his life, John David demonstrated incredible strength and resilience. Even during his fight against cancer, he remained positive and hopeful, inspiring everyone around him. He had a natural ability to make friends with his big smile and cheerful disposition, always ready to help others. John David was an avid hunter and cherished his time at Seven Pines Hunting Club with his friends. He believed that the world stopped for deer season, and he loved gathering with friends and family at the cabin he shared with his brother Mark.

John David worked at the Bossier Parish School Board, where he was beloved by the children, friends, and colleagues who affectionately called him "J.D." In addition to his career, John David was actively involved in raising cattle for Carol Jean Johnston and her late husband, Billy Tom Johnston.
