John Joyce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel - Grand Rapids on Mar. 27, 2026.
With heavy hearts and deep love, we share that John Ryan Joyce, age 49, of Rockford, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2026. He will be forever loved and deeply missed.

Ryan was the proud father of Jillian and Caden Joyce, whom he shared with their mother, Ester Joyce. He also leaves behind his loving parents, Laurie Joyce and John Joyce (Joyce Clark); his protective and devoted sisters, Kelli Gunn and Kerry Simmons (Scott); his nieces, Meredith and Molly; and his nephews, Cameron and Fazion.

Ryan shared a uniquely close bond with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins, who were far more than extended family to him; they were lifelong friends. Family gatherings, laughter, and shared memories with the Brogger and Joyce families were relationships he treasured deeply.

Ryan had a special way of lighting up around the people he loved. He maintained many meaningful friendships throughout his life, including lifelong friends from his graduating class at Northview High School.

His greatest pride and joy was being a father to Jillian and Caden. Some of his favorite moments were the simple ones-spending time playing chess with Jillian or golfing with Caden, and cheering them on as they pursued the activities they loved, including lacrosse and basketball. Protecting and caring for his children was always his highest priority.

Ryan enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially on the golf course or by the lake. He was also a loyal fan of the Detroit Lions, Tigers, and Pistons.

Ryan's family is deeply grateful for the support of his employer, Burgess Technical Systems, where he was valued not only as an employee but as a member of their extended family.

A Celebration of Life was held where 400 loved ones gathered to honor Ryan and support one another in the wake of this tragic loss. Surrounded by stories, laughter, and love, those who knew him came together in a powerful reflection of the impact he had on so many. Ryan leaves an immeasurable hole in the hearts of his family and friends, and though he was taken far too soon, his memory will live on in all who love him.
