John G. Jurczyszyn, 74, of Deerfield, NY, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 26, 2026, at his home.

John was born in Utica, NY, July 17, 1951, a son of the late Mykola and Maria Jurczyszyn. He grew up in Utica and graduated from Utica Free Academy (UFA). He continued his education at Mohawk Valley Community College and Herkimer County Community College. John was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Jurczyszyn was a contract painter, for more than thirty years, working for the Painters Local #301, in Syracuse, prior to his retirement.

John was very devoted to his church, Saint Volodymyr Ukrainian Church, on Cottage Place, in Utica. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed his garden, loved to watch his tomato plants grow, and enjoyed fresh tomato sandwiches made with them. He had a great love for animals and enjoyed feeding the birds and other wild live.

He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Anna and Nelson Kindall, and Luba Randall; a brother, Myron William Jurczyszyn all of FL; nieces and nephews, Jeff and Maribel Parzych, Valerie Parzych, Todd Randall, and Scott Randall and his companion, Kathy Farrell. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many special friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Jurczyszyn.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning, May 2, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00, at the Wolanin Funeral Home, 266 Main St., New York Mills, NY. Mr. Jurczyszyn's funeral mass will follow calling hours on Saturday morning, May 2, 2026, at 11:30, at Saint Volodymyr Ukrainian Catholic Church, 6 Cottage Place, Utica, NY. Burial will take place in Saint Volodymyr Cemetery, on Wood Road, in Whitestown, with military honors.

In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or at stjude.org as this organization was very close to John's heart.
