John P. Justis

John P. Justis, 86, of Hockessin, formerly of Parksley, Virginia passed away peacefully on March 25, 2017 at Seasons Hospice. He was the son of Edward C. Justis and Ruth B. Justis. John attended Washington College graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. After a brief job in an accounting firm, he went to work for the Dupont Company for 29 years retiring in 1988. John was a Korean War Veteran. He was a member of Hockessin United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Armstrong Lodge No. 26 located in Newport, DE for over 50 years. John enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, hunting, fishing, clamming, crabbing, walking in the park and with the Wilmington Trail Club. He also spent a lot of time volunteering at the Ashland Nature Center giving tours and repairing projects for them in his spare time. He was an avid traveler visiting many places both inside the United States and other countries. His most favorite trips were to Africa and New Zealand. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Jean (Parks) Justis who died in 1991 after 35 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by 2 sisters, Fairy J. Matthews and Reva J. Powell and a brother Earnest C. Justis. He is survived by his daughter Julie A. Justis of Newark and a sister Nancy J. Downes and her husband Vernon of Salisbury, Md. as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Per his request and desire there will be no service and burial will be private. A luncheon will be held in his memory on April 22, 2017 at Hockessin United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Hockessin United Methodist Church, 7250 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, 19707 or to Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, 170 Possum Hollow Road, Newark, DE, 19711. The family wishes to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice, Brookdale Hockessin, and Cadia Pike Creek Rehabilitation for all the excellent care he received.
