SFC Kilgus was born on February 16, 1923 and passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. SFC Kilgus was a resident of Lawton, Oklahoma at the time of his passing. John attended St. Andrews Catholic School, Hibberd Jr. High and Morton Sr. High in Richmond, Indiana. He completed his G.E.D. in the military. May 20, 1940 at the age of 17 years John joined the Army Air Corps 7th Calvary Det., Fort Knox, Kentucky. John�s duty stations were all over the United States, helping build air fields and air strips. Then to China, Burma, India, Mariana Islands and Okinawa. John was on Tinian Island when the Enola Gay left for Japan. Served 1942 to 1944. When John returned to the United States he attended the Chicago Trades Institute. Once again the military life called. John rejoined the Army Air Corps and later changed to the United States Army. John was stationed at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Lewis Washington near Tacoma, Washington. John retired June 14, 1965 from the United States Army after 20 years and 6 months of service. He was married to Emily. Funeral services will be 9:30 AM Monday at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Chaplain (MAJ) Andrew Choi officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a veterans organization of your choice or to The J. D. McCarty Center for Children with Developmental Disabilities, 2002 E. Robinson Street, Norman, OK 73071.
