John Labat Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2026.
JOHN Stewart Labat John Stewart Labat, 75, of Easton Maryland, died peacefully, after suffering a heart attack, on January 7, 2026, at Easton Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.

John was born on February 15, 1950 in Washington DC to Stewart Labat and Anne Blackistone. He grew up in Washington DC, Marion Ohio, Wilmington Delaware and on his beloved Eastern Shore of Maryland. John graduated from Easton High School in 1968 and shortly after enlisted in the United States Navy, including a tour in Vietnam. His devotion to duty reflected credit upon himself and was in keeping with the highest traditions of service.

John turned his love of woodworking into a successful career. He began as a boat builder in Oxford, Maryland and then became a respected home builder in Talbot County. He spent a great deal of time living and traveling on his boat, the Jennie Marie. Later in life, John spent many winters sailing to the Bahamas, generously volunteering for the Exumas Park. He volunteered so many hours that a plaque was mounted in his name.

John is survived by his life partner Jane Crawford, her son Jason Thayne Crawford and her loving family, his step-mother Anne Labat-Gepert and her husband Robert Gepert, his brother Woodall Labat, sister Julia Labat Hershey and husband Doug Hershey, sister Nancy Labat, step-sisters Jessica Pritz, Shenley Jorinscay, Abigail Gepert, and many nieces and nephews. John had countless devoted friends, and if you were lucky enough to be one of them, he shared with you his gentle kindness, warm smile, and generous spirit.

He was preceded in death by his father Stewart Labat and his mother Anne Blackistone.

Arrangements will be made at a future date.
