John H. "Jake" Laity, Sr., passed away on December 4, 2025, at Reading Hospital at the age of 87. Born on September 2, 1938, John lived a life anchored in hard work, creativity, and love for his family.
For 29 years, John contributed his talents and expertise at CarTech, where he served as a Four Mill Inspector. His commitment to his craft and the camaraderie he found among his colleagues left a lasting impact, both within the workplace and beyond. John's dedication to his profession was matched by his involvement in the CarTech Fellowship Club, where he nurtured friendships and shared memorable moments with fellow members.
Outside of his career, John was a passionate individual who embraced a variety of hobbies. He found joy in painting, gardening, and building models, pursuits that showcased his creativity and attention to detail. John also cherished the time spent with his wife, Beatrice S. (Riegel) Laity, and friends during Friday night gatherings at the Reading Company Boosters Club—moments that contributed significantly to his warmth and zest for life.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Beatrice S. "Sally" Laity, and their loving children, John H. Laity, Jr., husband of Ruth, and Michele Killian, significant other of Rick Wiltrout. He was a proud grandfather to Justine, John, Amanda, Kemmy, Weston, and Aubrey, and he delighted in the company of his great-grandchildren—Kayla, Emma, Adam, Hailey, Nathan, Hazel, and Zion. John also leaves behind his caring daughter-in-law, Colleen Laity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. C. and Fern (Dippery) Laity; his son, Craig W. Laity; and his brothers, Larry Laity and Lance Laity. John's legacy will live on through his loving family, cherished memories, and the friendships he fostered throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Funeral Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
