It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Leake-Rabb on January 4, 2026. Born in August 1952, John lived a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
John was Islamic and lived by his faith throughout his life.
He is survived by 7 children and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren:
- Kendell Willis (Janicee Willis), and their children Joshua David Willis (28) and Aaliyah Samiayah Willis (25)
- Michelle Leake
- Corey Willis (Demeda Williams), and grandchildren Medina Willis (39) and Jihan Willis (28)
- Maurice J. Leake (Sylvia Scott-Leake), and grandchildren Kerbi Robinson (Bryant Richardson), Kori McPherson (Joseph McPherson Jr.), Kelsey Ware (Daniel), Maurice J.
Leake Jr., and Natasha S. Leake
- Terrance Leake (Keeyannah Sims-Leake), and grandchildren Bernard Williams (36), Nassir
Sims (36), Yassir Sims (36), and Terran Leake (27)
- Onaje Rabb (Jessica Rabb), and grandchild Janae Walker Rabb (22)
- Anwar (Shalinda Hardin), and grandchildren Jeriah Hardin (21), Jinnai Hardin (15), Harper Hardin (5), and Hendrix Hardin (3)
He is also survived by his sister Karen Leake, who shared a lifelong bond with him.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Gibson Leake, 2nd, and his mother, Frances Rabb.
A Life Well-Loved:
John was a man of passion and creativity. He loved baseball and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, as well as cheering for the New York Giants and the New York Knicks.
His enthusiasm for sports reflected his competitive spirit and joy in life's simple pleasures.
Music was another love of John's life. He had an affinity for creating mixtapes and CDs in his spare time, founding his own company, "I Came to Play Productions." His creativity and dedication to music brought joy to many.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Specialist 4 (SP4), where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He later dedicated over 20 years of service working for the United States Postal Service before retiring. His work ethic, loyalty, and commitment were evident in every chapter of his life.
John will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his wisdom, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. We worked together for many years at Newark post office. Such a nice guy. Always smiling and saying hello. My deepest condolences go out to his family. He will be missed.
