John Von "Skip" Lewis, Jr. Jr.

John "Skip" Von Lewis Jr., age 75, of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025. He was born on May 2, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Linda (Chase) Lewis.

Skip is survived by his two daughters, Heather (James) Chaney and Kimberly Kelley; his son, Patrick Lewis; three granddaughters, Julie Nash, Abigail Kelley, and Caitlyn Chaney; three grandsons, Ryan Kelley, Christopher Haley, and Matt Chaney; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Von Lewis Sr.; mother, Linda Knob; sister, Billie Gromala; and brother, Bob Robey.

Skip was a lifelong automobile enthusiast with a remarkable eye for detail. He could identify the make and model of a car just by glancing at it and had a deep appreciation for their craftsmanship. He also enjoyed working on cars and spent many hours under the hood, fixing things up or just tinkering for the joy of it. He also loved camping and hiking and was happiest when he was out in nature.

Skip had a soft spot for animals, especially cats. He cared for many over the years and made sure each one was loved and well taken care of. His heart was big, and his compassion extended to both animals and people.

Most of all, Skip loved his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them. He was a man of faith who found peace and purpose in studying the Bible, and he'll be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, and steady presence.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com.
