John Lewis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Service on Mar. 24, 2024.
John K. Lewis, 68 of Old Bridge, New Jersey passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
Born Saturday, August 20, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York, John grew up in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn. John was a graduate of Nazareth Regional High School and then obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from SUNY Brockport.
John would meet the love of his life, Patricia Cavanagh, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Brooklyn. Both John and Patricia were a part of the Folk group there. Eventually the couple would begin a courtship that would lead to marriage. They married and lived in Brooklyn for a short time before settling in Old Bridge in 1986. They would start a family of their own and raise their 2 daughters in Old Bridge.
John was a loyal employee to Foot Locker for more than 40 years. He worked his way from the mailroom all the way to Director of Planning for Foot Locker. When John wasn't working he enjoyed reading books, especially books about US History. He was an avid NY Mets fan. John enjoyed getting together with his old friends, and after a cancer diagnosis became an active member of the Crossroads4Hope support group. More than anything John loved being with his family, and he will be deeply missed by all those that love him.
John is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, by his loving daughters, Katelyn and Jenny, by his caring sister Julie Sroka and her husband Rudy, by his loving aunt Marcella Logue and her husband Dennis, by his mother and father in law Eileen and George Cavanagh, by his brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, grand nephews, cousins, many friends including his special friend Brian Leight, and his grand dog Riley.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
A Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday at St Ambrose Church located at 83 Throckmorton Ln Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857.
In lieu of flowers the Lewis family asks that donations in John's memory are made to the American Cancer Society.
