John Edgar Lowther, 81, of Lost Creek passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025 with his family by his side.
John was born in Clarksburg on October 19, 1943, a son of the late Edgar and Freda Cogar Lowther.
He is survived by one son, Michael Shawn Lowther and his wife Amma and grandson Taven Michael Lowther. Also surviving are two sisters, Judith Curry and her husband John and Carolyn Brown and her husband Michael; two nieces, Stacey Davis and her husband Daniel and Bridgette Wilson and her husband John. He has one great niece, Riley Combs and her husband Brad, and two great nephews, Cameron Wilson and Ethan Wilson and his wife Gillian.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Judy; his in-laws, John and Margaret Newlon; and brother-in-law John Kent Newlon.
John was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. He was an expert on both hunting and fishing. His book on Spring Gobblers has been treasured by many hunters.
He graduated from Lost Creek High School in 1961 and went on to Glenville State College with a masters in 1968. He served in the United States Army Reserves for three years.
John taught school at Bridgeport High School before starting his own lighting business in 1970. He was a member of Horizons Church where he had many special friends.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in his honor to Horizons Church, 8302 Mt. Clare Road, Mt. Clare, WV 26408.
A private graveside service will be held.
