John Lukacs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home on Nov. 25, 2025.
John L. Lukacs, 83, of Auburn Township, Ohio, passed away on November 17, 2025.

John was born on September 19, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to John and Josephine (Kalamas) Lukacs. He is survived by his loving family: his daughters, Linda Lukacs (Mayer) and Donna Cain (Patrick); his cherished grandson, Ethan; his sister, Diane Kecso (James); and his nephew, David. He also leaves behind a close circle of lifelong friends who meant the world to him. John was preceded in death by his parents, whom he now joins in eternal rest.

John proudly served in the Ohio Army National Guard and in the U.S. Army Reserve for five years. He was honorably discharged in 1969 with the rank of Sergeant, Troop A, 1st Squadron, 107th Armored Cavalry.

John had a lifelong passion for all things NASCAR-especially anything Chevy and bearing the #3 of Dale Earnhardt. He loved drag racing and over the years proudly owned a number of prized muscle cars. He continued racing well into his 60s. John was a sports enthusiast. A devoted Cleveland Indians fan (and firm in his refusal to call them the Guardians), he could recite statistics from decades past-even if he couldn't always remember what he'd had for dinner. He never missed an Ohio State football game on television and remained a loyal Browns fan through every challenging season.

He talked with his girls every day, always making sure they had the latest Auburn Township news and weather report, down to the minute.

John was a gifted storyteller who could recount memories from the past for hours, always with his sharp wit. If you asked whether he needed anything, he'd inevitably reply, "Yes-a bag of $50s." He greeted callers with his signature "helloski" and signed off with "hasta la vista," small reminders of the humor and charm that made him unforgettable.

Hasta la vista dad. We will miss you.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time. Donations can be made in memory of John to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
