John "Jack" W. Lytle, 90, of Elkton, SD, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 with visitation prior beginning at 11:30AM at United Parish of Elkton.

Jack was born on September 11, 1934 in Gary, South Dakota to John and Dorothy (Sudbury) Lytle.

He attended country schools from 1940 through 1948, graduating from Gary High School in 1953. After completing high school, Jack worked for a rancher in Montana for a short period of time before joining the military. In January of 1954, Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his basic training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. After completing basic training, Jack was briefly stationed in Japan. He was then stationed in Hawaii, where he spent the majority of his time in The Corps. Jack proudly served our country until 1957.

After returning home, Jack began his career in truck-driving in 1958. Throughout his career, he worked for companies including Angerhofer Trucking, Lowery Livestock Trucking, Fred Meints Trucking, Midwest Coast, American Freight, Transport America (owner-operator) and Schak Trucking (owner-operator).

In 1961, Jack met and married Beverly "Bev" Nyvold. Jack and Bev were blessed with six children during their marriage. Jack and Bev lived for short periods of time in Aberdeen, Britton, and Kadoka, South Dakota before settling down in Elkton, South Dakota in 1969.

Jack drove truck across America at the aforementioned trucking companies for many years until he and Bev established JB Transport Incorporated in 1996. Jack continued driving under the JB Transport, Inc. banner until 2011.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #198 and a member of the United Parish of Elkton since 1969.

Jack is remembered fondly by his family members for his love of dancing and music, his quiet demeanor and quick wit as well as his seemingly photographic memory of America's highways and byways.

It can be said of Jack that he never met a stranger because he was always willing to lend an ear and his attention to all those willing to have a conversation.

Jack is survived by his three daughters, Rene Lytle, Elkton, SD; Ronda Hurd, Sioux Falls, SD; Rochelle Lytle, Eugene, OR; as well as his three sons, John Lytle, Fredericksburg VA; Don Lytle, Omaha, NE; Steve Lytle (Josenda), Prior Lake, MN; along with many loving grandchildren, great-grand children; and his siblings, Jerry (Marilyn) Lytle and Sonja (Howard) Hanson.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; daughter-in-law, Linda Branstrom, daughter-in-law, Pamela Lytle; parents; and brother, Gene Lytle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ava's House, Sioux Falls, SD in Jack's memory. May his memory be a blessing.
