John Maggard Obituary

JOHN WAYNE MAGGARD John Wayne Maggard, 83 of Potwin, Kansas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born October 18, 1942, in Eldorado, Kansas, to Berlie Maggard and Geneva (Dillman) Maggard. John grew up in Augusta, Kansas, and graduated from Augusta High School in 1960. John had many jobs in his lifetime, the most recent was woodworking and truck driving. He was an award-winning truck driver. John was a true craftsman at heart. He found joy in making beautiful things out of wood. He loved nature, trees, mountains, reading, and hiking. He always paused to appreciate the wonders of God's creations. He loved his dogs and said, "There is nothing like a good dog." His special dogs throughout his life were Baby, Abby, Fluffy, and Sweetie. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, good sense of humor, and, of course, his orneriness. He was a do-it-yourself kind of guy. He was always tinkering with something. He could build or fix just about anything. He was still trying to work on his own house and cars at his age. He was a true John Wayne, tough as nails. He built 2 houses all by himself! He always said, "Life is about love." He was a great Dad and Papa. John is survived by his two children, Andy Maggard, Pauline (Shawn) Hinkle; his grandchildren Jessica Hinkle, Colby Hinkle, and Cason Hinkle; his sister Janice Bonds; his brother Michael (Cheryl) Maggard; and his former brother-in-law Albert Brown. John is preceded in death by his parents, Berlie and Geneva; His sister Bonnie Brown; and his brother-in-law Mickey Bonds. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, in the Colorado Mountains that he loved. He made the world a better place. His legacy will continue to inspire those who loved him. He will be deeply missed. Love you forever.
