CUYAHOGA FALLS - John E. Malene, 95, passed away peacefully, January 21, 2026, at Heritage of Hudson Nursing Home in Hudson.
He was born January 23, 1930, in Rockland Township, PA, to the late Samuel and Antoinette Malene. Mr. Malene was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force between WWII and the Korean War. After military service, he graduated from Parks Aeronautical College of St. Louis University. He then came to Akron in 1953, and began working as an engineer at Goodyear Aircraft Company, later Goodyear Aerospace Corp., retiring in 1990 after 37 years of service.
He was a man of strong faith and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls. John was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family. His avocation and greatest passion outside of family was flying. He had thousands of hours of flight time and taught many students how to fly. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, and his great sense of humor.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Nancy (Daniel) Zupancic of Stow; son, Donald (Dawn) of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Nathan Hamlet, Nicole, Vincent, and Jana Malene, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and four siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Theresa.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 PM, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3363 Darrow Road, Stow 44224.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223, with John's nephew, Fr. Ronald Witherup as celebrant.
Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
