John A. Manzione, Jr., 96, of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania passed away on January 30, 2026, while resting peacefully at the Cumberland Crossing retirement community. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Manzione, his wife of 64 years, Jean LaCoy Manzione, his brother-in-law, Carl Schwarz, and his daughter-in-law, Beckie Machonis Manzione.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, John graduated from St. Justin’s High School in Mount Washington, PA. He then graduated from Georgetown University before being commissioned in the United States Marine Corps. He earned his pilot wings as a naval aviator and flew over 300 combat missions in Vietnam over two tours and led as a squadron commanding officer. He served as the assistant naval attaché at the U.S. embassy in New Delhi, India. He later functioned as a Marine Aircraft Group commander before retiring as a Colonel.
John and Jean enjoyed a long retirement in the Boiling Springs community since 1985. They were active members of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle, PA.
Survivors include his sister Mildred (Manzione) Schwarz and his brother Norman Manzione; his sons John Manzione III, Mark (Iris) Manzione, Matt (Cindy) Manzione, and Chris Manzione; ten grandchildren: Elizabeth Bauer, Christopher Manzione, Leo Manzione, Emily (Manzione) Schooley, Sarah (Manzione) Schultz, David Manzione, Elizabeth (Manzione) Weinerth, Nicole (Manzione) LaFrazia, Kate Manzione and Caroline Manzione; 19 great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A burial ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
