I first met John in the fall of 1955 when we became freshmen at Canisius High School in Buffalo. My family moved to Ohio in 1956. We both became freshman at John Carroll University in the fall of 1959. John recognized me. We found that we had mutual interests including the Pershing Rifles which is a military fraternity. Over our college career were on many drill teams together. We were in the same platoon during ROTC Summer Camp. Together, we learned to fly through the U.S. Army ROTC program, and we were commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants on the same day. We were roommates for 2 years. Life after college took us in different directions, but we always remained close friends. We stayed in touch by telephone, email, and on occasion, we were able to see each other. I last spoke to him a couple of weeks before he died. It is no secret that John was a multi-talented man. If he found something he could not do, he taught himself how to do it. He was a kind man with a big heart, and he had great military talent as exemplified by the many promotions, responsibilities, and awards that he earned throughout his distinguished Army career. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He was a marvelous human being, and a great friend. I will miss him very much. Rest in peace my friend.

Paula advised me of John's passing the other day. I was surprised. John and I worked together many times over the years, both in St. Louis and in Cleveland. I actually replaced him in Cleveland. We played racquetball together many times in Cleveland. I was fortunate to see him and Paula last year in Nashville at the QUAD A Summit when they came by to visit my helicopter we had on display. A great guy and super couple. I was always amazed at the hours he got up to take his kids to swimming lessons.
