It was reassuring to walk into the courtroom and see Judge Marley on the bench. He treated everyone with respect and fairness. My sincere condolences to his sister Mary Longo and the rest of the family. May God give you Peace and Strength...Sincerely, Marie Hayden

When growing up my father told us of the time he met Mayor John Markey at Howard University. My dad was a freshman at the time. Year's later the two would meet again in New Bedford when my dad moved up from Greensboro,NC for work. A long friendship and a lifetime of community work ensued. My father always reminisced of the compassion Mayor Markey had for ALL in the community. It was one of the many reasons my father chose to stay and make a life for himself and our family after growing up in a segregated south. My father was unable to attend the Mayor's "going home" ceremony as it is referred in my dad's southern Baptist community. But he wanted to make sure John's family and loved ones knew that we are GREATFUL for his life and ETERNALLY THANKFUL for them sharing him with the community! May God be with you all! Lovingly and fondly, Dr. Jibreel Khazan and family

I first met Judge Markey as a district court prosecutor.Over the years I found him to be a man who tried to help people in need particularly the young while at the same time punish those who committed crime in a fair manner. Judge Markey was one of the best human beings I have ever met. My condolences to the Markey family on your great loss. Owen Murphy

Even though you knew you were in the presence of an extraordinary, important, accomplished and virtuous man, he went out of his way to treat you as an equal.

I will never forget our conversations, the laughs, & his stories in particular. I do not worry about where the soul of Jack Markey will go. I trust God greeted him warmly.

Cousin Jack lived in the DC area for a while. He worked with my Dad for several years. He was a Mentor to me at a tough time in my life(early teen years) He took an old formica kitchen table and used it for a backboard for our first basketball hoop. He introduced me to the game and told me about his experience at Stonehill College. I missed him when he moved back to New Bedford. In college my roommate & I took a last minute trip to see him sworn in as Mayor. I took my son to Stonehill last summer for a basketball camp and made a point to visit with Jack. I told him how much he meant to me and introduced him to Dylan. We had a great visit and he kept telling me that we should bring some bottled water out to Dylan who was playing basketball in his backyard . He was always looking out for others. I always felt welcomed and right at home with Jack & Carol. You will always be in my heart and will never be forgotten ! Love you Cuz, Joe Hodgson
