John Daniel Martin

John Daniel "Danny" Martin, age 76, of Troy, Missouri, passed away on January 6, 2026, at Boone County Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born on June 30, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Morris and Dorothy (Tompkins) Martin. A graduate of Wentzville High School, Class of 1969, Danny enjoyed playing football during his school years. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970-1972. He then joined the Carpenters Union where he worked for 30 years. Danny was united in marriage with wife Rita L. (Niederer) Martin on February 5, 1972. They had four children; McKie, Wendy, Nicki and Glen Allen. Together they built a life rooted in family, laughter, and love.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Martin of Troy, MO, children; McKie (Rachel) Martin of Wentzville, MO, Wendy Dalton of Troy, MO, Nicki (Doug) Vehige of Troy, MO, and Glen Allen (Jessie) Martin of Wentzville, MO. Danny was a loving grandfather to Randall, Sophia, Annabelle, Jackson, Millie, Wesley, and Izzy, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his sister, Lois ( Clarence "Jr") Wilp of Silex, MO, many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Randy Martin.

Danny had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and found peace in nature. He loved birdwatching, collecting unique rocks he discovered along the way, and spending time with his dogs, who always held a special place in his heart. Known as a compassionate, free spirit with a great sense of humor, Danny was a natural jokester who could bring smiles to those around him. Danny always led by example, and made those around him feel safer just by being there. Above all else, he loved his family immensely, and that love will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. Danny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Danny's legacy lives on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he gave so freely.
