HOLLY RIDGE - John Randolph Mason, 47, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, in Holly Ridge, North Carolina. Born on June 15, 1978, in Wilmington, North Carolina, John spent his life rooted in the coastal communities he loved.

He attended Dixon School from elementary through high school and later pursued a career in heating and air conditioning by studying HVAC at Cape Fear Community College. His dedication to his craft reflected his quiet determination and work ethic.

John was a soft-spoken and kind person who cherished time with his family and maintained close bonds with many friends throughout his life. He found joy and peace in creative expression-drawing and painting were among his favorite pastimes. An avid skateboarder and surfer, John embraced the rhythm of the ocean and the freedom of the outdoors. He also enjoyed fishing, often spending hours by the water's edge, and could do or fix anything.

A meaningful moment in John's spiritual journey came when he was baptized alongside his former wife and son in the ocean-a testament to his deep personal faith and connection to nature.

John is survived by his loving mother, Kathy Batson Mason; his beloved son, Ethan Mason; his Uncle and Aunt, Larry and Linda Batson; Aunts Debbie Batson Guthrie; Peggy Shepard and Jo Mason and many cousins and special friend, Kermit Merrit. He was preceded in death by his father, Randy Mason; grandparents, Martha and James Batson; Uncle David Batson; and grandmother, Bonnie Lee Mason; and Uncle Dennis Guthrie.

John's gentle spirit and love for those around him will be remembered with warmth by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. A floating Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Holly Ridge Community Building, 404 Sound Road.
