John D. "Jack" Maxwell, 87, a lifelong resident of East Liverpool, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on, Saturday November 8, 2025. He has been reunited with his beloved son, David.
Born on September 9, 1938, in East Liverpool, he was the son of the late Earl and Gladys Maxwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Maxwell.
A proud graduate of East Liverpool High School, Class of 1957, Jack married the love of his life, Florence "Jean" Wycoff Maxwell, on September 13, 1958, together they built a beautiful life and raised five children.
Jack was no stranger to hard work and dedication. He began his working life at just 16 years old with the Martin family at Martin Funeral Home. Over the years, he often held two or three jobs at a time to provide for his family, working at Crucible Steel until its closure, as well as Turks, Mountaineer Racetrack in security. He later retired in 2018 from Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home but continued to help his granddaughter at Genesis Cremation Services, a testament to his strong work ethic and devotion to family.
A proud and active member of his community, Jack was a lifetime member of the East Liverpool Elks Lodge #258, where he served as Exalted Ruler in 1972-1973, 1981-1982, 1986-1987 and District Deputy in 1991-1992. He was also a dedicated member of VFW Post #66 and the East Liverpool Moose Lodge #122.
Jack found great joy in traveling with his family to their summer home in Canada, as well as visiting Niagara Falls, Atlantic City, and many other favorite destinations. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Jean Maxwell; daughters Sondra Maxwell, Kimberly Wilson, Marianne Bozek, and Jane Lynn Creese; grandchildren Jayma Wilson, Karley Bozek (Brian Sayre), Devan Tingler (Chris), Robert Bozek, Alyssa Creese (Machale Harville), and Jonathan Creese; and great-grandchildren Sydney Wilson-Plunkett (Chris Warrick), Teneille Diaz-Wilson, Addalynn, Parker, Landon Tingler, Leyland Sayre, Zaidyin, and Zakari Harville.
Jack's life was one of love, loyalty, and laughter, and his presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Arner Funeral Chapel, at 3pm. Elks services will be held before the service. Friends may visit with his family 3 hours prior to the service from noon-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child ages 1–16 to honor his memory. The Elks' Christmas program for underprivileged children meant the world to him, and your gift will help continue the spirit of generosity he cherished.
