To the family of John McCain, I have found a new respect for Mr. McCain. I watched a lot of MSNBC when he was running for president. This man has certainly been thru a lot in his short life. He truly was a patriot for all the people. When I saw him tell a lady that Obama was not a muslim, but was truly a decent family man, I cried & continue to cry whenever I think of him. He too was a decent family man. I am democratic, but I have a new outlook on things because of him. Thank you for your service sir. Rest in Peace John. You are truly loved & missed! Say HI to my mom & dad. I know you are all together & I will see you all soon!

Did my freshman year English Composition on the Prisoners of War returning from Viet Nam. Though that was 45+ years ago, I remember clearly the torture, mentally, emotionally, physically that these men endured. Hat's off to John McCain and every other war p.o.w. having served in the US military, ever.

I did not know John McCain. I am not a Republican. However, I did vote for him in the 2008 elections. I felt he was the best qualified to be our president and one rare person who had integrity, compassion, empathy, courage and valor. I would have been proud to call him my president. However, his voice continued in the Senate, standing by his convictions without fearing nor thinking of repercussions. A great loss to his family and to this country he so proudly fought for. My deepest condolences to his entire family. His soul served his purpose in this lifetime...

How does one honor and thank Senator John McCain, and all of our Veterans, for the important work that they've done in keeping our nation safe and free?.....I would like to offer a Prayer for Veterans:.....Proud of our nation, they answered her call---Defending the freedom and safety of all. On land or on sea, or in jets high above, They went out of duty and honor and love. But, however they served, Lord, wherever they went.....Please bless them and help them to know what it meant!.....And help us to thank them on Veterans Day --- For we owe them far more than we ever could say.

Senator McCain seemed like a man with a good head on his shoulders. Only the good die young and he was young. My condolences to his family for such a great loss. I am a Canadian Snowbird who always kept up to date with Senator McCain. He went through hell in Viet Nam. What a strong, strong man, that would have killed most of us. He knew he had bigger and better things yet to accomplish, he must have had!
God speed Senator McCain, God Speed.

When a young, U.S. Naval Academy graduate, John McCain entered into his service in the Navy as a fighter jet pilot who had to make bombing missions over North Vietnam, that war had just started up. Before long, he found himself on a mission where his plane was shot down by a North Vietnamese rocket. When he was captured in North Vietnam, he spent five and a half years in the "Hanoi Hilton" prison. In order to honor John McCain, and his service to our Country, I would just like to say that a movie on DVD, that was made in 2005, shows what he had to endure for those years. The title of the movie is, "Faith of My Fathers," from the book that John McCain wrote by the same title.

I served with Mr McCain in USS Forrestal during the horrific fire and explosions while we were in the gulf of Tonkin off the coast of North Vietnam. His escape from death was such a near thing that we were almost without him in 1967. Thank God he was spared to show his bravery again in Vietnam and become the great American he was.
