John M. McCarthy, known affectionately by friends as Jack or Abe, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in Folsom, PA. Born on August 22, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, Jack brought joy and wisdom to every life he touched. He is remembered as a friendly, generous, and a wise man who loved unconditionally and lived life to the fullest.
Jack was a graduate of West Catholic High School. After years of dedicated service, he retired from Boeing, where he formed lasting relationships with his colleagues and friends.
Family was the cornerstone of Jack's life. He is survived by his loving sister, Eleanore Hilosky; dear son, Kurt McCarthy, daughter-in-law, Linda McCarthy; cherished daughter, Melinda Ehly, son-in-law, Brad Ehly and devoted son, Daniel McCarthy, and daughter-in-law, Kristin McCarthy.
Jack is also survived by his beloved grandchildren-Kurt McCarthy Jr., Brad Ehly Jr., Heather Marie Hunter, Donte McCarthy, Nolan McCarthy, Corey Robinson, Colin Robinson, Connor McCarthy, and Malayna McCarthy. Paparazzi to Harper Marie Hunter and Maeve Ehly.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Bob McCarthy, a relationship he treasured and remembered fondly.
An enthusiast for all things Philadelphia, Jack could often be found cheering on his favorite sports teams or discussing the latest Penn State football game. His admiration for the teams was a well-known part of his personality and sparked many lively conversations and friendly debates. Jack also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Duncan Tavern in Wellsboro, Pa which was his home away from home.
Jack found solace in the company of his beloved cats, Rick and Kyra, whose antics provided him with endless amusement and comfort.
John M. McCarthy lived a life characterized by love, friendship, and generosity. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of wisdom and warmth will continue to inspire those who knew him. Jack's story is one of a well-lived life, full of moments that are cherished and celebrated by his family and friends.
As per Jacks request, no funeral services will be held. Family and friends will be updated upon scheduling for a future Celebration of Life.
