John Carl McCauley, Jr., a dedicated and proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away on Friday, November 07, 2025, in Manchester, Tennessee, at the age of 74.
Born on October 13, 1951, in Tennessee, John's life was defined by the discipline and dedication he learned in the military. His persona was deeply rooted in his service with the Marine Corps, where he served honorably from 1969 to 1975 and attained the distinguished rank of Sergeant. John's military occupational specialty required immense physical strength, particularly in mechanics and duties that demanded manual skill. He was known for his strong forearms, a result of having to complete rigorous mechanical tasks by hand without the aid of power tools or air hoses. His six years of service saw him engaged in extensive training and deployments. He completed basic training at Camp Pendleton and also served at Camp Lejeune. His tours and training took him all over the world, including assignments in California, Hawaii, Vietnam, Quantico, and 29 Palms. John was selected for and attended drill instructor school and underwent specialized Secret Service training while also in the military. He was awarded many certificates and accommodations throughout his career before being honorably discharged for medical reasons due to a service-related knee disability.
John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Carl McCauley, Sr., and Peggy McCauley.
He is survived by his loving son, John McCauley and Michelle, of Portland, TN; his cherished grandson, Jackson McCauley; and his brother, Neil McCauley. He is also survived by his canine companion, a rat terrier named Skipper along with other friends and extended family who will remember his strength, commitment, and character.
