John A. McCoy, III born April 4, 1972 passed unexpectedly Saturday, February 4, 2023. John was known lovingly by many as Spike, a nickname that he carried proudly.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents James & Kit Bourke, John & Virginia McCoy, his Aunt Sis (Cathy) Bourke Chesnick, Uncle Joe Chesnick, Uncle Jim Bourke, Aunt Jan Duncan Bourke, Aunt Lee Ann McCoy Fausnaugh.
John is survived by his son, the light of his life and his most favorite human being ever, Ethan Pallone. Also survived by Johnny is his mother Margaret Bourke Connor and step-father Drew Connor, his father John McCoy Jr. and Cathy Hironaka, his brother Patrick and Kimmy Willis McCoy, his sister Meghan McCoy Long and Matt Long, his brother Mike Connor and Katy Cruse Connor and his sister Heather Sellers Kelsey. John and Lilac Gordyn met at HBI (Huntington) and over the years grew to be friends, companions and life savers with so much love and understanding for each other.
John also has numerous nieces and nephews who on every encounter with Uncle Spike were fortunate to experience his uninhibited goofiness and unlimited love for each of them. Affectionately known by many of them as "the human jungle gym" Uncle Spike was always a free spirit and a legend that has imprinted himself on their lives forever. Johnny is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins who have supported and rooted for him throughout his life.
John attended St. Andrew Elementary, Bishop Watterson H.S. and graduated from Centennial H.S. in 1990. He was employed by Landsel Title Agency for the last 7 years, where he made lasting friendships and enjoyed encounters with his clients as much as they enjoyed and valued him. He was with HBI (Huntington) for 5 years prior.
His three favorite places on this planet were Camp Perry (Lake Erie) where he relished his time and shenanigans with family and friends, and Hayden Run Falls and Leatherlips Park, where Johnny and Ethan spent special time filled with discovery, fascination, foot races (Ethan always won!) and lots of giggles and squeals. Johnny was such a proud father.
A celebration of John's extremely loving, amazing, atypical life will be held in the Spring with details announced at a later date.
There were no strangers in Johnny's life...just folks he hadn't bumped into yet.
