John Randall McCoy

John Randall McCoy, age 76, passed away at his home in Oklahoma City on February 27, 2026. John was born on December 5, 1949, in
Panama City, Florida, to Denver and Lucille McCoy. At the age of 18, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968. After completing basic training in San Antonio, Texas, he attended technical school in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he trained in Air Traffic Control. Upon graduation, he was stationed at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in Oklahoma, beginning a distinguished military career. John served 15 years as an Air Traffic Controller before transferring to the Air Control and Warning Wing (AWACS) at Tinker Air Force Base. There, he flew as a Senior Weapons Director for seven years. In 1990, he retired honorably after 22 years of dedicated service to his country. Following his military retirement, John continued his professional career with Boeing Aerospace as a Curriculum Developer for 10 years. He later worked for the federal government providing oversight on AWACS contracts, further contributing his expertise and leadership. John was a devoted father and family man. He shared three children-John Randall Jr., Stephanie Ann, and April Michelle-with his former wife, Evelyn Cunningham. On February 6, 1988, he married the love of his life, Loretta, who brought three children-Shawn Anne, Aaron, and Cory-into their union. Together, they blended their families into one filled with love, strength, and shared memories. John and Loretta were blessed with 38 years of marriage. He found great joy in the outdoors. John loved archery, golfing, riding motorcycles and side-by-sides, and hunting. Some of his most cherished memories were made taking his son John Jr. on hunting trips, and later, sharing those same experiences with his grandsons. John was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church, where he found great joy in serving in the food pantry and mentoring the young men of the church. He dearly loved his church family and considered them a true blessing in his life. John was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Lucille McCoy; his in-laws, Vernon and Imogene Clawson; his beloved son, John McCoy Jr.; and his grandson, Blake Allen Wallace Tucker, who passed away at 10 months old. He is survived by his devoted wife, Loretta McCoy; daughters Shawn Ann Newport of Oklahoma City, Stephanie Jones and husband Terry of Moore, Oklahoma, and April Adams of Moore, Oklahoma; sons Aaron Tucker of Michigan and Cory Tucker and wife Erica of Moore, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and three great-grandsons who will carry forward his legacy. John is further survived by his siblings: Timothy McCoy; Nancy and Raymond Walker; Brett and Lisa McCoy; Laura and Steve Holden; Patrick and Sue McCoy; Joseph and JaieLyn McCoy; and Michael and Rhonda McCoy. John Randall McCoy will be remembered for his steadfast dedication to his country, his unwavering love for his family, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. He leaves behind many friends, bonus family, and loved ones who will forever hold him in their hearts. His legacy of service, strength, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
