John Rex McKinley, a native of Summerland, Mississippi and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the age of 88.
Rex is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Annette Guidroz McKinley; parents, Collo and Lucille McKinley; sisters, Carolyn Sue McKinley and Elna Joyce Marshall; brothers, Joe I. McKinley and Gerald K McKinley; daughter-in-law, Pam McKinley.
He is survived by his sisters, Rachel McKinley Walzak (Jim) and Nell McKinley Todd (Rodney); children, Terri Lynn David, Richard and Tracy McKinley, and John Kevin McKinley; grandchildren, Chad and Lynsey McKinley, Jessica Murnane, Hilary and Joe Chang, Zachary McKinley, and Cody and Amy Hagler; and great-grandchildren, Peyton McKinley, Easton McKinley, Jase Hagler, and Tyler Hagler.
Rex was a member of the First Baptist Church of Denham Springs, LA, as well as East Gate Lodge #452, Scottish Rite, Shrine, Grotto and Eastern Star. He served over 8 years in the U.S. Army National Guard and graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1956. He then attended JCJC and LSU.
Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, December 12, 2025, resuming at 9:00 AM until services at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
