John McMurdo Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 23, 2025.
John A. McMurdo, age 89, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025. He was born and raised in Hortonville. He was born on September 29, 1936, the son of the late John and Eva McMurdo. John was a great lover of country music and had several of his own small bands for many years – Sundowners, Country Music Unlimited and The Waysiders. He played guitar and sang with his bands in many local establishments. He also purchased and ran a bar in Greenville for several years. But that wasn't his only talent. John was a "jack of all trades". In his lifetime, he started his own excavating business, did sewer work, plowed snow while living in Bear Creek, worked road construction, did some remodeling and more. John liked to travel and move around. Places that he lived include Hortonville, New London, Bear Creek, Crandon, Rhinelander and Clintonville. John liked to say, "I've been almost everywhere and done almost everything, including both Marines (where I worked with German Shepherds) and Army".

John is survived by his daughter, Melissa Ahrens and many nieces, nephews and many friends from all over the country. Included is one very special niece, Margie Brown of the New London area and three young ladies – Billie Jo, Barb and Michelle – daughters of a very special friend.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by all immediate family.

Per John's wishes, there will be no funeral.
