In memory of
Joan Germain
August 2, 2024
I just received a letter (August 2) in the mail notifying me of Dr. McNamara's death. I was shocked. I had an appointment about the time of his death for an eye exam and was told he no longer worked at the San Mateo Medical Center, no reason given. I was so disappointed because I valued him greatly as my eye doctor for several years. He treated me with humor and respect and his exams were always "right on." My humble regards for your loss of his presence in your lives and for his journey onward.

I've just learned of John's death and am sorry to hear of it. I was a classmate of John's at CCOM. I knew him as a kind, funny man. Please accept my condolences. Grant rest unto him , o Lord, and let perpetual Light shine upon. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed rest in Peace.

Definition of an earth angel is our Dr McNamara- Definition: earth angels serve as "light workers" on earth, spreading positivity, joy, healing, compassion, love. Personally Dr McNamara was fun to talk to, I would occasionally catch Dr
McNamara going through the cupboards in our staff lounge, I would help him find where the hot chocolate was hidden. No matter the person he was speaking with colleague or patient he always made that person feel he was genuinely interested in what they had to say. Sending love and light to the McNamara family with my deepest condolences

I enjoyed working in the clinic next to John. He was always friendly, kind, happy and smiling. He was so proud of his daughters. I am shocked at his passing, and send warm thoughts and prayers to his beloved family.

It is truly an honor to call John McNamara my friend. We spent endless hours studying in medical school and playing tennis. He was a long way from home and being from the Chicago area he was always welcomed by my family. Over the next 35+ years we would keep in touch and he always would speak so lovingly about his dear wife Christine and his four beautiful daughters. The world has lost a true gentlemen. My prayers and thoughts are with his family. I will miss you my friend, thank you for all the enduring memories. I wish you peace in heaven.

It was my privilege to know John in a variety of capacities for over a decade. He was unwavering in his commitment to the community of, and served by, San Mateo Medical Center. In my personal interactions with him, he was unfailingly kind, generous and respectful (an increasing rarity these days). I remain shocked by this unbelievable loss and the world as I know it is diminished by it. I am grateful to Barry for bringing John to us and I am grateful to John's entire family for sharing him with us. He was a true gift, and I will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Dr. McNamara traveled to Half Moon Bay to see our patients at Coastside Clinic. He was a kind and patient person, he always had a smile and he never seemed to mind a question or interruption. I am not at all surprised to read this beautiful obituary about his joyful, inspired life and his loving family. I am so sorry to all of you for the loss of such a dear family member. I hope that his memory will be blessing for your always.

Dr. McNamara was always a kind and great teacher. As a colleague at work, he only was ever available for any questions I had and was always kind to our mutual patients.
We will miss your kind and knowledgeable energy John -- and will keep your family in our prayers and thoughts.

I met John at work. I brought apples from my tree and he said the Pink Lady apples were his favorite. He was always smiling at work and very happy. It is a profound loss for all of us. saint Peter has openly welcomed him to the kingdom of heaven and he is with the lord. My heart goes out to his family. You are in our prayers
