My deepest condolences. He was the sweetest man and it was an honor to work with him. I remember when he asked me why i called him only by his last name. It was because i worked on base for 9yrs. He then just became "Mecke". I enjoyed our chats and many laughs, making the workday a little more bearable. He is definitely missed.

My condolences to John Mecke's family and friends in their loss. I am pretty sure we are cousins, but sadly the two branches of Meckes did not get together? My dad Bernard (Ben) F. Mecke, son of John Fred Mecke, San Antonio both deceased, spoke of John's dad (I believe) Anthony "Cotton" Mecke, who raced boats. Dad was an only child. My parents had 3 sons, me, brother David (deceased) and youngest brother Craig M. Mecke, 77 and wife Patsy in New Mexico. Brother David had two grown daughters, Debi Kuykendall now in Ft.Worth area and Tanya Dorsett in Austin. My dad's family is now down to me, Michael Bernard Mecke, 86 in Kerrville and Craig in NM. I will share this info with them too.

Your family may know cousins of Bob Mecke (deceased) in San Antonio. Bob had several children and grands. I will share this with them in case they missed it in the paper. One grandaughter has a good family tree I understand.

Sounds like John was a great guy and outdoorsman. Again, I am sorry for your loss so early in his life. Bless you all. Mike Mecke, 1701 Silver Saddle Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028

Would be happy to communicate if desired.

John was truly one of the great ones. He was always willing to teach anyone who was willing to learn. I remember the late nights working holiday routing with him, patiently showing me the ropes. Over time, he trusted me enough to take over the night routing, and I´ll never forget the compliment he gave me:

"Hey, you´re getting better than me at this. Now I can take off a full holiday week."

That meant more to me than he probably realized. John will be deeply missed. I´m grateful for the opportunity to have learned from him and even more thankful to have called him a friend. My prayers are with his loved ones during this time.

John always had this laugh about him when he would talk to all of us drivers! We knew when we were about to get a stop added onto our routes because he would come and shoot and off-handed joke about it and then later came the voicemail to confirm it! He was a very fair boss and a really great person to be around! God bless you and your family John!
