John Melendez, age 81 of Crown Point, formerly of East Chicago, passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was a retired firefighter with the City of East Chicago for 24 years and a proud owner of John A-1 Body Shop for over 30 years and an avid car enthusiast. John was preceded in death by his parents- Esteban and Catalina Melendez. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years- Toni; his two children- John David (Debbie) Melendez, Dianna (Hector) Roque; 7 grandchildren- Andrea, Jon Vincent, Brianna, Matthew, Lauren, Lisa and David; 4 great grandchildren- Skyla, James, Alyssa, Victor; siblings- Nestor (Patricia), Victor (Judie), Marisa, Nina (Hector) Lopez, David (Sherry); numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point.
