John Millerick, 78, of Middletown, husband of Patricia (Reynolds) Millerick, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 17th at Middlesex Hospital. Born on July 8, 1931 in New Britain, he was the son of the late Joseph and Louise (Skelly) Millerick. He was a retired Industrial Arts Teacher of 35 years in the Portland, CT school system. After graduating from Middletown High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for 4 years, including stations in the US and England. On April 14, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Reynolds. He and Patty were married for 57 years. John was a man of many interests including gardening, woodworking and jewelry making. He built the 26 foot sailboat "Driftwood" on which he and Patty spent many summers at Block Island and made a year long trip down the ICW to Florida and the Bahamas. John touched the lives of many people including his students, his colleagues, friends and family. Besides his wife, John is survived by their children, Jack Millerick and his wife, Nancy of Columbia, Mark Millerick and his wife, Susan of St. Augustine, FL and Nancy Gosselin and her husband, Michael of Cromwell. He also leaves his three adoring granddaughters, Renee and Andrea Gosselin and Colleen Millerick. He is also survived by two brothers, Dr. Joseph Millerick of Newington and Richard Millerick of Little Rock, AR, and one sister Marie Tobin of Forestville. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Millerick. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 11:30am at St. John's Church, 5 St. John's Court, Cromwell with the Rev. Mitchell Sawicki officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours and it is the wish of the family that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to: The Hospital for Special Care, Rehab Unit, c/o Foundation Department, 2150 Corbin Avenue, New Britain, CT 06053. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.doolittlefuneralservice.com. The Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown is handling the arrangements.
