John Mohn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 12, 2024.
John was the youngest of four children. His father worked for the railroad, and his mom was a homemaker. The family moved to Parkville when John was two years old in 1955. When he was just 8 years old, John got an inexpensive guitar from his parents for Christmas. Once he picked up that first guitar, it became a lifelong obsession. He and his friends practiced, wrote, and performed music together, forming the first of many bands that John played for and becoming lifelong friends with most of them. In order to support his music habit, John had to find a day job. He was recruited by his uncle to work as a rod man for a survey party. This led to a long and distinguished career as a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor. Known for his skill, accuracy and attention to detail, John worked his way up from a rod man to becoming the Chief of Surveys for Harford County Government, retiring in 2021 after 32 years of service. John married his wife Cheryl in 1996, and they welcomed their only child Courtney in 1999. He was a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate. He was a member of many bands, including Grapes of Wrath, Joanne Dodds Band, and most recently, Blynd Ambition. Despite his recent illness, John continued to play with the band, doing what he loved to do.
Friends may call at the family owned Ruck-Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road (at beltway exit 26) on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM.
