John A. Monaghan

John A. Monaghan, age 57, from Dumont, NJ passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023. The first son of Kathleen Monaghan and the late Patrick Monaghan. Loving companion of the late Debra Marcus. He is survived by his brothers, Denis and his wife Cathryn, Vincent and his wife Barbara, and his sister Donna Marie and her fiancé Michael. He was loved by his many nieces and nephews and was very excited to welcome his first grand-nephew Liam Patrick.

John graduated from New Milford High School and followed in his father's footsteps becoming a union carpenter in Local 608. After many years swinging the hammer, he embarked on a career change and decided to go back to school where he graduated Magna Cum Laud from Ramapo College and then went on to receive his Master's Degree from Fordham University. From there, he became a social worker and counselor. Through his work, he connected with people and worked with them through their recoveries helping them get their lives back on track.

John loved the New York Mets and faithfully watched every game he could. He was also an avid reader, a very passionate animal lover, and enjoyed fishing and golfing.

The family welcomes visitors to the Frech-McKnight Funeral home on Saturday, January 21, from 9 am-10:30 am, followed by a Mass at St Mary's Church in Dumont. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the ASPCA in John's memory.
