John S Mooney

John Mooney, 78 years old of Plattsburgh passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10th at
CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 23-year battle with
Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was born in Plattsburgh on September 12th, 1947.
John graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy and then went on to attend Saint John's
Fisher College, graduating with a degree in accounting. John worked as a pharmacy technician
alongside his brother, Dale at Condos Pharmacy for many years but much of his career was
being a Bread Salesman for Bouyea-Fassett's Bakery, a job that allowed him to connect with
many people in our community. We always looked forward to those Cruller donuts and coffee
cake.
Despite living with ALS for more than two decades, John always remained positive. He was
hard-working and was known for his kindness and easy-going nature. In his younger years, John
enjoyed playing softball and had a passion for collecting sports memorabilia. He was a lifelong
devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants, and he never missed an opportunity to
binge-watch some Hallmark Christmas movies.
John is survived by his loving, dedicated wife Pamela, for whom he was married to for just shy
of 50 years; his daughter Kristina Coryea and granddaughter, Emma of Plattsburgh; his daughter
Stephanie Akin and her husband Aaron and his grandsons Desmond and Dexter; his siblings
Nora McNeil of Peru; and Julie Wells and her husband, Dennis of Plattsburgh. Also surviving
are several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is pre-decreased by his brothers
Dale and Conan Mooney and his son-in-law, John Coryea.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 17th from 4-6pm at Brown's Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh followed by a brief prayer service immediately after. A gathering of family and
friends will be held on Wednesday March 18, 2026, at 10am at the Emmaus Room at St. Peter's Church on Cornelia Street in
Plattsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory can be made to The ALS Association Upstate
New York Chapter or to Christopher's Haven, a home away from home for children with cancer
in Boston, Massachusetts.
