JOHNSTOWN - John Bennett Morris, 80, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2025.
Born to John W. and Marion B. Morris, he grew up in West Sand Lake, N.Y., and graduated from Averill Park High School, Hudson Valley Community College, Russell Sage College, and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University (with thesis).
John began his career as a teller with the State Bank of Albany, and retired as Vice President and Treasurer of Norstar Leasing Services, after 25 years. He later worked as an accountant with Cransville Block Company for 10 years.
A dedicated community leader, John served in leadership roles with the Johnstown Lions Club, United Way, YMCA of Fulton County, St. Patrick's Lodge #4 and the Masons. He was also Master of Ceremonies for local parades and a member of Cyprus Shrine, and served as Past President and Treasurer of the Adirondack Shrine Club.
John proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for over 30 years, achieving the rank of Master Chief (E-9) in just over 19 years, an exceptional accomplishment. His active duty included service in Iceland and aboard the USS Keppler (DD-765) and USS Yosemite (AD-19).
He is survived by his life partner, Doris Lawyer; his beloved daughters, Allison (Scott) Card and Katie (Raymond) Roberts, who were the light of his life; and Doris's daughter, Karen Lawyer. "Papa No Hair" will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Alex, Zach, Ava, Jack, RJ, Dylan, Tyler, and Chano.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 6:00 until 7 p.m., at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, N.Y.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the East Nassau Rural Cemetery, Garfield Nassau Road (Co. Hwy. 26), Stephentown, N.Y.
