Jack was such an inspiration to so many of us at Hope United Methodist Church. His kindness, wisdom, faith and passion for mission work will be missed! He and Hatsumi were beloved by many. We were honored to celebrate his 100th birthday with him! We will keep praying for peace with justice Jack!

I first became a friend of John about five years ago when He and Hatsumi moved to Easthampton and became neighbors just around the corner. John and I soon discovered things we had in common that created a bond between us. My father was also a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan and Yale Divinity School and served as a minister all his life. A distant grandfather on my father´s side was a methodist circuit rider in Central Ohio in the 1800´s and helped start Ohio Wesleyan.
My fondest memory was helping John prepare a PowerPoint presentation about his missionary work in Japan. John´s faith led him to an extraordinary life of service and devotion to the people of Japan starting just after WWII. Imagine getting on a boat with six or seven other missionary young adults to serve in a land the USA had just defeated in war! His and Hatsumi´s lives are an inspiration of how faith and love can bring people together even though an ocean may separate them. I will miss him.
