It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved John Lee Motley Jr., affectionately known as Big John or Buster. Born on July 1, 1964, in Steubenville, Ohio, John departed this life on September 14, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His journey through life was characterized by kindness, intellect, and an unwavering ability to bring warmth to those around him.
Raised in the Bronx, New York, John later moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, before finally settling in Albuquerque, where he created countless cherished memories. In 1999, he found great love with his partner Rose, and together they enjoyed over 26 wonderful years of companionship.
John was renowned not only as a devoted husband, father, son, and grandfather but also as a beloved brother and uncle. He treasured the moments spent with his daughters and his sweet Rose, bringing them joy and laughter daily. John was passionate about his education, pursuing classes at CNM and sharing delightful TikTok videos with his family. His dreams included obtaining his degree in communications, becoming TikTok famous, and starting his own business.
To celebrate the remarkable life of John Lee Motley Jr., family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at Strong Thorne Mortuary, located at 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, on September 29, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at the same location on September 30, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM and concluding at 12:00 PM.
As we reflect on John's life, we hold dear the joyful moments shared and honor his enduring legacy of kindness and compassion. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
