My sincere condolences to Jay Mullen's parents, his brother and other family and friends. I only knew him through his stories in the Post -- a byline you could count on for an excellent story from a regatta or, increasingly, from some white-water site. It was his rowing stories that first stuck in my mind. It was obvious he knew the shell from the inside, not just the shoreline. And in recent years, I thought more than once how lucky the Post was to have both Angus Philipps and John Mullen to take us outdoors on a Sunday morning.
