I remember Dr. Mulliken swimming 25 laps daily at Charles River Park pool when I lived there and working at MGH. He was an excellent physician and a very pleasant person. RIP.

A memory I treasured

The whole Jacomini family is devastated by the news of the passing of Dr. John B. Mulliken, a giant of the medical world.
Our daughter Carlotta has been operated thirteen times by Dr. Mulliken for a facial hemangioma.
Doctors in Rome and elsewere in Italy refused to operate because they considered it too dangerous. Dr. Mulliken, step by step, brought Carlotta to a normal life and today she has a beautiful family with a three-year-old son and a second child on the way.
"Giovanni il sospiroso" (sospiroso meaning a person who often sighs) as he called himself with us, stayed in contact through the years always supporting us.
He was a radiant star casting light and hope in the darkest days of his patients and patients' families.
We will carry him in our hearts forever, with immense gratitude.

We just watched the church service online. The Mass was a beautiful tribute to Dr. Mulliken.

Loved hearing from his nephew and colleague and got more of an insight to his life outside the hospital. He operated on my daughter for the first time at 6 weeks old. He calmed so many fears we had and took care of her until he got sick.
Actually, I spoke to him last April because he wanted permission to include my daughter´s cleft info in his book. If he didn´t finish the book, I hope someone will!
His last email to me said to tell Ella that her surgeon, who starting caring for her at her first surgery when she was 6 weeks old, is extremely proud of you for your academic and sport accomplishments. He said to keep it up.

He was an amazing person. His daughter is the same age as my daughter and we would always talk about their accomplishments even though they were so young. He loved his daughter and wife and could see the sparkle in his eyes when talking about them. Thank you for sharing Dr. Mulliken´s time with us. We truly appreciate it.

Much love from The Caseys.
