John Dennis Murphy
02/25/1942 - 02/13/2024
John Dennis Murphy, born on February 25, 1942, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, peacefully passed away on February 13, 2024, in Midland, Texas. He was a former resident of Sioux County, Nebraska.
John lived a fulfilling life as a rancher in Sioux County until 1985 when he relocated to Midland, Texas. Throughout his lifetime, he pursued various hobbies, including shooting sports, hunting, team roping, flying airplanes, horse racing, and reading. His passion for flying led him to fulfill his dream of becoming a pilot, which brought him immense joy for many years.
Known for his sharp memory and interest in technical data, statistics, and horse bloodlines, John dedicated countless hours to studying these subjects.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Emil (Junior) and Edith Murphy, and his sister, Carolee Murphy. He is survived by his brothers Gene Murphy and his wife Carol of Mitchell, Nebraska, and Bill Murphy of Kadoka, South Dakota. He is also survived by his son Larry Murphy and his wife Jennie of Colorado Springs, Colorado, his daughter Lori Rotan and her husband Diron of Midland, Texas, as well as his grandchildren Bobby Rotan, Eric Rotan and his wife Sarah, Maggie Murphy, and Lorin Murphy.
John will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who knew him for his zest for life, his love for his hobbies, and his dedication to his loved ones. May he rest in peace.

We are so sorry for your loss. We met John at Hillcrest. My husband and I showed movies once a week and John was always there to help. I remember we would have popcorn and sodas. John would always make a big mess around where he sat. He would always say...I think I drop more popcorn than what I eat. I said "me too".... untill........A grand-daughter taught me how to eat popcorn. He said "oh is that so?' He asked how are we suppose to eat popcorn? My grand-daughter said" Put one popped kernel in your mouth at a time. I replied to grand-daughter..."oh, you mean, not try to shove a handful in my mouth?" She said "EXACTLY" So we laughed about it and from that lesson forward, John ate all his popcorn and no mess! He loved it.....Lesson learned by us both! :) Always remember the happy memories....God's blessings upon the family.
