Dr. John Nethers

Dr. Nethers knowledge and sense of humor made history come alive in our history class at Ashland. God bless you and your family, now and always.

John was a wonderful man. I will never forget his generosity and support of A U. student athletes. THIS GRIDIRON CLUB member will truly be missed! RIP!

Dr. Nethers was an incredible professor. He genuinely cared about his students. I am so glad that I took one of his classes. He loved his subject matter and it was obvious in the classroom. My condolences to his family. Class of 1982.

I had Dr. Nethers for American History my freshman year. He was by far one of my favorite professors at Ashland. I remember he would write a quote on the board in his classroom everyday. A tradition I have borrowed for my own classroom. Condolences and prayers to your family. Blessings.

I am saddened to hear of Dr. Nethers passing. He was one of my favorite professors at Ashland. I was always happy to run into him around town and have a quick chat. He was a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers for his family.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Dr. Nethers was an outstanding man and quite a character. I dont ever remember a time when he wasnt laughing or making someone around him laugh.

I met Doc in 1978 in Miller Hall. I was immediately intrigued by him as he skipped into the classroom singing "Somewhere over the rainbow" at the top of his lungs. The kicker........it wasn't his class. I enjoyed his classes so much I took every course he taught as electives. After graduation our friendship grew, we exchanged notes and Christmas cards for 34 years until we stopped for health reasons in 2017.
The parties at his home were always fun (Marilyn was a saint to put up with all of us kids).
I'm so saddened by his passing, he helped make me the man that I am today.
Condolences to Doc's family and to the AU family.
Doc changed my life and many others.
I'll never look at a map again without thinking of him.

I didn't have the pleasure of having Dr. Nethers for a class, but I remember that he would stop in my social work classes once in a while and talk. I wish I had taken one of his classes. He was a great professor!! All of Ashland University will deeply miss him.

John had already retired when I joined AU's family. He greeted me with warmth and concern that I would feel at home. He was a fine representation of AU personnel. He was a gift to the universty and to the community.

Dr. Nethers was an extraordinary teacher who made history come alive. I will forever remember the kindness that he and his wife showed to his students - especially making sure we didn't stress out too much prior to exams by inviting us to their home for a cookout. Prayers.

One of the greatest- men, teacher, and scholar.... I along with thousands of others were blessed to have had Dr. Nethers shape our intellect, make us laugh and love with hole hearted passion for History! Truly an amazing man - he will be missed by us all......

Dr. Nethers was one of my favorite professors. I was a student in his American History class 66-67. He was so interesting. I always enjoyed talking to him over the years at homecoming and at basketball games. He will be missed.
