Passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the age of 69. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on January 19, 1955, and raised in Bolingbrook, Illinois, he then lived in Lockport, Illinois for 35 years. Graduated in 1973 from Romeoville High School and in 1978 from Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois, where he met and lived with the notorious Heavens 11 crew. Retired from Lemont High School where he taught P.E. for over 30 years, coached wrestling and football and dedicated his life to impacting young lives.
John loved attending the infamous Otteman Family Reunions, golfing or going to lunch with his buddies every week, watching westerns and Hallmark movies in his La-Z-Boy, and da Bears. Most of all, he loved visiting and spending time with his family and friends, especially his kids and grandchildren. A loving, affectionate, generous and brave man, who's laugh and humor we will all remember forever; and who will live on through treasured stories and memories.
Preceded in death by his parents William and Wilma (nèe Davison) Otteman, and stepmother Margaret 'Peggy.'
Survived by his brother Timothy 'T.O.' Otteman and sister-in-law Jan (nèe Amoruso) Otteman; friend and former wife Teri (nèe Splitt) Marciniak; son Matt Otteman and his wife Emily (nèe Knouse); his daughter Sarah Otteman and her partner Connor Mendoza; three cherished grandchildren Maeve, Eliza and Madden; his nephew Billy Otteman and niece Elizabeth (Chris) Ramirez; and many beloved relatives and dear friends.
