John W. Parrott was born on June 8, 1934, in Cohutta, GA and passed away on December 31, 2024, at the age of 90.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garvin Lewis Parrott and Jesse Wahlice Parrott.

John grew up on a farm near Cohutta, GA, in primitive conditions, before the days of electricity and running water. He graduated from Cohutta High School in 1951; attended Berry College for one year; and then obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech. He spent his entire working career with Rohm and Haas Chemical Company. He worked at first on solid rocket propellant research for ten years in Huntsville, AL, where he met his wife, Catherine Caine, who was teaching school in Huntsville at that time. They were married in 1967 and then moved to Baytown, TX, where they spent fifteen years and where John held various technical management positions in a large chemical plant. They then relocated to Philadelphia, PA, where John was first a Research Department Head and then held positions in corporate operations and planning. John retired in 1990, after 33 years of service Rohm and Haas Company, and returned to the Cohutta, GA area.
John was active in local Baptist churches wherever he lived. He served as a deacon in churches in TX and PA, then for the past 34 years at Cohutta First Baptist Church. He was a lifelong student and teacher of the scriptures and taught Bible study classes for over 70 years in four different churches. John was also active in various civic activities, serving as president of the Dalton Lions Club, the Cohutta Ruritans Club, and the Chattanooga section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers at various times during his retirement years.
John's other hobbies included golf, reading, and activities with his large extended family. John and Cathy liked to travel and visited all fifty states and over fifty foreign countries on six continents.
